Pygmalion programme

17th January 2007

Pygmalion Plus 2007 is now inviting nominations and applications from writers/creative teams and producers/script editors.

Pygmalion Plus is a European project development programme, part-funded by the media programme of the European Union. It is unique in providing specialised development, within a single programme, of live-action, animation and cross-platform projects for child and family audiences for

  • Feature Film
  • TV Series
  • Interactive Media

The Programme is designed to develop projects from an early stage and has proved a unique resource for professionals with a particular interest in these audiences.

Pygmalion Plus will select 12 projects from professional writers/creative teams for development in the programme. 4 producers/script editors are also selected as team support members to develop their skills. Participants work with a mentoring team of writers, director, actors and other specialist support. Working language is English. The programme includes:

  • Two residential Labs – June 16–24 (Germany) and October 16–21 (Amsterdam)
  • Five months internet support
  • Networking and consultation with invited UK and European producers and broadcasters
  • Participation in Cinekid International events during the 2nd Lab

Production companies are invited to nominate writers/creative teams and producers/script editors to participate in the programme. Potential participants can also apply directly to Pygmalion Plus.

Nominees for the Pygmalion Programme may be screenwriters and also people accomplished in an allied field, including theatre or fiction, who wish to write for the screen for the first time. We also consider nominations of directors or producers developing projects in close collaboration with a writer, and artists or animators with animated or interactive projects.

For writers, Pygmalion has proved an invaluable opportunity for professional development. For production companies and broadcasters it is a productive and cost-effective resource for project development.

Participants pay their own travel costs but all board and lodging is provided. The working language for the Programme is English. The programme is subsidised but there is also a fee of 900 Euros (+ VAT) per participant.

Application deadline: 15 March 2007
