Press Release – 19 October 2006

New Manager of Cyfle

It has been announced that Iona Williams will be the new Manager of Cyfle for a period of six months.

The appointment comes as a result of the reorganisation of the Cyfle senior management team following the departure of Siôn Hughes, who has joined Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.

The responsibility for leading Cyfle in the next period lies with Iona Williams, Ian Wyn Roberts, the Finance Manager, and Geraint Wyn Parry, the Business Manager and Secretary.

"As a result of the changes in Cyfle, the Management Committee has approved a strong internal management structure to lead the company during the coming months until the situation regarding new European funding programmes becomes clearer," commented Norman Williams, the Chairman of Cyfle.

"We are confident that Cyfle, under the strong leadership of Iona Williams and her team, will be able to meet the challenge of providing training of a high quality which will respond directly to the needs of the industry in Wales."

Iona Williams has worked for Cyfle for fifteen years. During that time, she has been mainly responsible for the company's training schemes for new entrants in television, film, new media and lately the multi-platform age. She was also responsible for establishing the Skillset NVQ Assessment Centre in Cyfle. In 2003, she was the first recipient of the Skillset Outstanding Contribution to Training and Development Award.

Ian Wyn Roberts joined Cyfle in July 2006 as Finance Manager. A Chartered Management Accountant, he has wide experience having worked for Mowlem plc, West Coast Energy, The National Trust, Llaeth y Llan, and Theatr Gwynedd, amongst others.

Geraint Wyn Parry has been with Cyfle since 1997, with responsibility for funding applications. Cyfle has received around £2 million of European funding since 2000 towards its variety of training schemes for the industry in Wales.

In addition, it was confirmed that Nadine Roberts will take responsibility for Cyfle's new entrant training schemes; Gareth Davies for new media; and Shân Gwenfron Hughes for Skills Wales Fund. David Ellis Jones continues to be responsible for Cyfle's specialist training in Health and Safety. Gwawr Williams is the company's Business Development and Marketing Officer.
