Peter Edwards

Chairman of the Film Agency for Wales

After running his own Independent Company for 11 years, Peter joined HTV Wales as Head of Drama in 1998. His credits include "A Way of Life" (Winner of the Bafta Carl Foreman Award), Executive Producer “The History of Taliesin Jones”, “Darklands”, “Little White Lies”, "Nuts & Bolts" (RTS Best Regional Award), "Pen Tennyn" (S4C), "Chosen" (ITV Wales & RTE), 14 episodes of "A Mind To Kill", director "East Enders" and "District Nurse" and Bafta & Celtic Film Festival Winner "A Bride of War" and "Penyberth".

Sybil Crouch

Vice Chairman

Head of Cultural Services at Swansea University & Director of Taliesin Arts Centre. Sybil is a founder member of the Wales Specialist Film Exhibition Group and represented the exhibition sector on the Wales Exhibition Task Force. In 1999 she was the first person to be appointed by open advertisement as Chairman of the Arts Council of Wales, a position she held for 4 years. Sybil is also a Governor of Swansea Metropolitan University and a member of the Audit Committee.

Angharad Evans

Board Member

Angharad is a media lawyer and curretly works as an inhouse solicitor at S4C advising on various aspects of television production, compliance and co-financing. Prior to joining S4C, Angharad worked at S J Berwin law firm in London and advised independent film makers and film financiers on a wide range of legal aspects of film work including development, financing, production and distribution of films. Angharad has also advised a variety of clients in relation to the legal aspects of television production, mobile games content and media and communications law in general.

Elan Closs Stephen

Elan Closs Stephens CBE is currently Professor of Communications and Creative Industries in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she has been a member of staff since 1975. A member of the BFI Education Committee since December 2000 and appointed to the Board of the BFI in October 2001, Elan is now a Governor of the BFI. She also chairs the Advisory Committee of the British Council in Wales and is a Trustee of the main Board representing Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Elan recently oversaw the Welsh Assembly Government, Wales Arts Review, under Alun Pugh AM, which undertook to take a wide ranging review of the existing funding arrangements for the arts, including the role of the Arts Council of Wales, and looked to a possible future framework for funding and the development of access and inclusion to the arts, tackling social inequalities.

In 1998, Elan was the first person to be appointed in open competition as Chair of S4C. Appointed by Lord Smith of Finsbury (then Chris Smith) at DCMS, she was reappointed by Secretary of State, Tessa Jowell, for a further full term. Elan was also a member of the UK Film Council/ Skillset Task force on training for the film industry.

Nerys Lloyd

Nerys Lloyd (ACE alumni 2003) has recently completed "Daddy's Girl" a psychological horror written and directed by David Evans, starring Richard Harrington, Jaime Winstone and Louise Delamere (financed by ACW and Carnaby Films.) It has been bought by "Contender" in the UK to be theatrically distributed in Autumn 2007.

In 2005 Boda Co-Produced Dead Long Enough a Romantic Comedy with Grand Pictures, written by James Hawes and directed by Tommy Collins starring Michael Sheen, Jason Hughes (financed Irish Film Board, Arts Council of Wales, Northern Irish Film and Television Board, Eclipse, Non Stop Sales, Media Luna, RTE, ITV Wales). It is playing at festivals at the moment before its release and won the audience award in the recent Welsh International Film Festival.Boda has been involved in the emerging talent scheme for Sgrin Wales and in the last two years has produced ten 35mm short films. Boda was established by Nerys Lloyd in 1993 as a Television and Film Company and since 2001 has focussed solely on Film. Previous film credits include 'Beautiful Mistake' (dir. Marc Evans) and 'Crosscurrent' (dir. Pip Broughton.)

Ynyr Williams

Ynyr Williams was appointed to the Board from the 14th July 2006. Ynyr is Series Producer of Pobol y Cwm, the BBCs longest running soap opera. He began his career as an actor with Theatr Ystwyth and Theatr Cymru between 1981 and 1984. He has worked in the independent sector with Ffilmiau Elidir, Dime Goch and various other companies before establishing his own company, SALEM, in association with Tinopolis. He has won many BAFTA awards for programmes such as UNED 5, 'Johnny Owen - the Long Journey' and 'DAL;YMA/NAWR'.

Alison James

Board Member

A specialist on the French market, Alison James reported extensively on the European film and television industries as Paris Bureau Chief for leading industry publication Variety from 2000-2007, and she continues to contribute articles to Variety’s weekly edition.

Alison recently launched a new Paris-based independent company, Lutetia Productions, to develop and produce English and French language films, and to offer line production and consulting services to the international film industry. She lives on the outskirts of Paris with her husband and two children but was born and raised in Neath and still has close ties with Wales.

Will Machin

Board Member

As Head of Thinkfilm International for Capital Films, Will Machin has more than ten years experience of film production, sales and distribution.

As Co-President of International Sales for Lolafilms, he was responsible for world-wide sales and acquisitions on behalf of Spain’s leading film production, distribution and sales company. Will then went on to launch the international sales arm of Carnaby Films Plc, the leading EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme) backed film company in the UK. His responsibilities included all financing, business affairs and overseeing the production on all Carnaby titles.

Cath Davies

Board Member

Cath Davies is a lecturer on the Media Studies with Visual Cultures undergraduate degree programme at UWIC. From 1994 – 2004, she taught A level Film Studies at Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff’s tertiary college. During this period, she was involved in examining Film Studies for the WJEC, in addition to undertaking film education projects ranging from teaching short courses in film at Chapter, to secondary school workshops within South Wales' Valleys cinemas.

She is currently researching Stardom and Iconic Status for a PhD thesis.
